at the matchup and trends in advance of the big game.
Rematch of
Week 12
The
Buccaneers hosted the Chiefs back in Week 12, a game that ended in a 27-24 win
for Kansas City that wasn't nearly as close as the score suggests.
Wide
receiver Tyreek Hill was the star of the day, catching 13 passes for 269 yards
and three scores, most of which came in just the first quarter.
It was
27-10 going into the fourth quarter, at which point the Chiefs coasted to
victory, allowing Tampa Bay to score a pair of touchdowns late.
Since this
game, the Tampa Bay defense, particularly its secondary, has solidified. The
Buccaneers will do what they can to avoid a repeat of Hill's performance.
We went 1-1
on our last pick, it was a Sugar
Bowl betting pick when Clemson destroyed Ohio State!
Betting
Trends for Both Teams
The Chiefs'
win over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game was the first game they
covered against the spread since Nov. 1. On the year, Kansas City is 8-10 ATS,
and the overs are 9-9.
Tampa Bay
is 11-8 ATS this season, with an identical 11-8 record for the overs.

Strengths and Weaknesses
It's no
secret that Kansas City's strength is the passing game, led by Patrick Mahomes,
Travis Kelce and Hill. With a fine, if not unspectacular, running game going
against Tampa Bay's top rush defense, expect to see the Chiefs pass early and
often.
Head coach
Andy Reid has shown aggressiveness and creativity in his play-calling, and it
will be on the Buccaneers secondary to slow down the Chiefs offense.
Tampa Bay's
strength is likely its well-rounded attack. With a top 10 offense in both
passing and rushing, and a top 10 defense in both as well, the Buccaneers offer
more balance than Kansas City does. The Tampa Bay offense should have its
opportunities against a middling Chiefs defense.

Game Pick
Playing at
home with a well-rounded team, I'm picking Tampa Bay to cover the 3.5-point
spread. The storyline of Brady bringing another team a Super Bowl, while
interesting, isn't why Tampa Bay is my choice.
The fact
the Buccaneers are playing in their home stadium, with fans, cannot be
understated. This is the first time we've ever had a team play at home for the
Super Bowl.
History is
also on Tampa Bay's side. Since 2000, only four Wild Card teams have made the
Super Bowl, with all four winning. Something about a team playing three games
on the road brings them together. That's why Tampa Bay's moneyline, set at
+150, has such strong value.
Super Bowl
LV should be an instant classic. A Chiefs repeat would be the first since the
2004 Patriots. Mahomes taking down Brady would officially pass the torch and
give the star quarterback a chance at surpassing Brady's six rings.
