Heisman Trophy Futures
In 2022, there's a
chance that the Heisman Trophy will be won by the same guy that won it last
year. That doesn’t happen very often. Bryce Young, the Alabama quarterback, is
back to lead his offense once again. This year, Young is not the favorite to
win the Heisman Trophy for a second time in a row, even though his team is the
favorite to win this year's College Football Playoff national championship.
The fact that Young
isn’t the favorite is not shocking considering that in the history of college
football's premier prize, only one player has won it twice. Only a select few
players have even had the chance to repeat since the feat was accomplished in
the 1970s.
The Heisman Trophy
front-runners for this year don't provide many surprises. The board is once
again dominated by quarterbacks. Only two non-quarterbacks have received the
Heisman honor since 2005. Ironically, both Mark Ingram and Derrick Henry,
running backs in 2009 and 2015, were from Alabama.
This season could go
down in history. There is a chance for a repeat Heisman Trophy winner.
It’s also possible that a non-quarterback takes home the trophy in 2022.
Everything is conceivable.
Bettors have a
chance to capitalize on something other than the CFB point spread. Here
are the Heisman Trophy front-runners for 2022. Let’s put the odds in your favor.
The
Favorite: Ohio State QB
Young is not the
favorite; instead, C.J. Stroud of Ohio State is. Last year, the star
quarterback for the Buckeyes threw for 4,435 yards and 44 touchdowns, but Ohio
State lost to Michigan in the season finale. The Buckeyes missed out on the CFP
as a result of that loss and an earlier loss to Oregon.
Stroud finished his
campaign with a Rose Bowl performance that broke all previous records. He
completed 37 of his 46 passes, resulting in 573 yards and 6 touchdowns. Stroud
is the +200 favorite to win going into 2022. The Buckeyes are once more the
favorites to win the Big Ten and return to the CFP after a year off. Stroud
stands a good chance of taking home the Heisman trophy this year if they
accomplish that.

Heisman Trophy Futures - Young’s Status
Young is the next
player listed at +350. Heisman Trophy victories in back-to-back seasons seem
unlikely for him. Only Ohio State running back Archie Griffin has done this in
the history of college football. Lamar Jackson of Louisville and Jameis Winston
of Florida State both had a chance to win back-to-back Heisman Trophies but
fell short.
Young's receiving
group at Alabama is one of the factors contributing to his underdog status.
This season, he won't have either John Metchie III or Jameson Williams, who are
both NFL players now. Last season, Young averaged 8.7 yards per dropback with
those two on the field. After they left the field, that figure fell to 6.4. In
2021, no returning Alabama wide receiver had more than 250 yards receiving.
That makes Young a
tough bet similar to betting NFL win totals this year. Do you know what’s not a
tough bet though? Betting mid-major NCAAF lines!
New
School, Same Williams
Former Oklahoma
quarterback Caleb Williams made the decision to follow his head coach Lincoln
Riley when he accepted a position at USC.
Williams started for
the Sooners last season and had a strong first four games. He averaged more
than 15 yards per completion, with a completion percentage of 73%, and a
quarterback rating of 211.7. Knowing stats like these will get you on the way
to winning more football bets this
season.
Williams struggled
in his final four games as the Sooners' starter. His passer efficiency declined
to 57%, and his QB rating fell to 133.2. Williams is listed at +800 at top sportsbooks
to win this year's Heisman because of his subpar performance at the end of the
previous campaign.
Non-QB
Hopefuls
Williams is granted
odds of +800, which are the best available to any player not named Stroud or
Young.
Bijan Robinson of
Texas, a running back, is listed next at +1600. Last year, the Longhorns'
running back ran for 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Quinn Ewers, a
transfer, will serve as the next starting quarterback for Texas. Steve
Sarkisian, the head coach, is renowned for using offensive talent and that
could factor in Ewers making a run for CFB’s top award.

Ewers' inclusion on
the Heisman betting list is intriguing. He is
one of four players that have odds of +2000.
Robinson's stats
from last season were surpassed by Ohio State's TreVeyon Henderson's. His 1,248
rushing yards and 15 touchdowns were better than what Robinson posted.
D.J. Uiagalelei, the
Clemson QB, had a difficult start to 2021. In 2022, he should be much improved.
For the Florida
Gators, Anthony Richardson will be the only quarterback to start, and he ought
to do well in new head coach Billy Napier’s offense.
